Cuba Police Department Creates Business Watch Program

On March 10, 2026, Cuba Police Chief Michael Huckeby announced that officers with the Cuba Police Department will be conducting regular business checks throughout the village during patrol as part of the department’s commitment to proactive policing and community engagement.

During these checks, officers may stop in to speak with employees during business hours to see if there are any concerns, suspicious activity, or issues the business community would like us to be aware of. After hours, officers will also be checking businesses to ensure doors and windows are secure and that there are no signs of suspicious activity.

These checks help deter crime and ensure that our local businesses remain safe and supported.

Business owners in the Village of Cuba can provide the police department with an after-hours contact number so they can be notified in the event officers find an unlocked door or an issue at their business.

These activities are part of a larger initiative to establish a Business Watch Program for local businesses within the Village of Cuba.

The purpose of this program is to strengthen communication and cooperation between local businesses and the police department in order to improve safety and share information regarding suspicious activity, theft, fraud, and other issues that may affect businesses in our community.

As part of this initiative, Cuba PD is exploring several ways to improve communication and collaboration with local businesses, including:

  • A direct communication group for business owners and managers to share information and alerts with each other and the police department using shared messaging applications
  • Business Watch decals identifying participating businesses
  • Regular meetings with business owners and managers to discuss safety concerns and crime prevention

This program will work alongside the business checks officers conduct during patrol, which help ensure businesses are secure and allow officers to maintain regular contact with the business community.

The Cuba Police Department will be organizing a meeting with local business owners and managers in the near future to introduce the program and gather feedback from the business community. More information regarding the meeting will be shared soon.

If you are a business owner or manager within the Village of Cuba and would like to participate or receive additional information, please contact the Cuba Police Department.

We appreciate the continued support from our business community and remain committed to keeping Cuba a safe place to live, work, and operate a business.
