Meet Malcolm Smith – New Deputy Clerk for Village of Cuba

Malcolm Smith joined the Village of Cuba as Deputy Clerk on July 20, 2026. In this position, Malcolm will support the Village Clerk’s office in all aspects of the Village’s day-to-day operations, providing administrative and operational assistance across multiple departments. His responsibilities include coordinating daily activities, assisting with municipal operations, supporting staff and leadership, maintaining records, communicating with residents and community partners, and helping ensure the efficient delivery of services.

An experienced administrative and operations professional, Malcolm brings more than 15 years of experience supporting judicial, legal, and professional sports organizations. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Sport Management from Colby–Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, graduating in 2008.

Malcolm’s career began in professional sports, first through internships with the Princeton Rays, West Virginia Power, Idaho Falls Chukars, and Helena Brewers baseball organizations where he gained a strong foundation in game-day operations, event management, community relations, ticketing, and front office administration. From there, Malcolm served as an Account Executive with the Binghamton Senators Hockey Team, and went on to hold leadership and administrative positions with the Elmira Jackals, Washington Wild Things, and Albuquerque Isotopes. Throughout these roles, he managed administrative operations, community relations, account management, event planning, transportation logistics, payroll administration, and client services.

In 2020, Malcolm transitioned into the New Mexico Judicial Branch, to serve as a Judicial Specialist II with the New Mexico Second Judicial District Court. While there, he worked to ensure compliance with state requirements, maintain confidential criminal case records, manage financial transactions, and become proficient in New Mexico court data systems. Most recently, Malcolm served as an Administrative Assistant II/III for the New Mexico Eleventh Judicial District Court, where he coordinated court hearings, collaborated with judges, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and state partners, managed court documentation, supported domestic violence proceedings, maintained detailed hearing records, and ensured the timely processing and distribution of court orders.
