At the January 28, 2026 Regular Village Council Meeting, Mayor Denny Herrera welcomed Michael Huckeby as the new Chief of the Cuba Police Department.
Chief Huckeby began his law enforcement career in 2012 in the State of Oklahoma before continuing his service in New Mexico. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of patrol, investigative, and leadership roles within municipal and county law enforcement agencies.
In addition to his civilian law enforcement experience, Chief Huckeby has served in the United States military, where he developed a strong foundation in leadership, discipline, and operational planning. His combined law enforcement and military background has shaped a professional approach centered on accountability, preparedness, and service.
“I am committed to professional policing standards, transparency, and building trust within the community. As your Chief of Police, my focus is on strengthening department operations, supporting officer development, and ensuring the Cuba Police Department provides fair, consistent, and community-focused law enforcement services,” says Cuba Police Chief Huckeby.
The Village of Cuba will be working with Chief Huckeby on improving communications with the community by launching a new Police Department page at cubanm.gov and new Facebook page to post public notices and accept incoming non-emergency messages.
