2026 JUN 5 – Reed Rd.

On June 5, 2026, the Cuba Police Department responded to reports of an armed individual who was allegedly pointing firearms at members of the public and firing shots into the air within the Village of Cuba.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, later identified as Carlos Sanjurjo. During the encounter, Mr. Sanjurjo was armed and refused commands from law enforcement. Due to the nature of the incident and concerns for public safety, the situation was treated as an armed barricaded subject.

The Cuba Police Department was assisted by the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office and the New Mexico State Police. Through the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, Mr. Sanjuro was taken into custody without injury to officers, the suspect, or members of the public.

Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed as part of the ongoing investigation where multiple firearms were seized associated with the incident. Additional information will be released as appropriate and in accordance with state law and the integrity of the investigation.
